WattStory is committed to the privacy of your personal data and the safeguarding of personal information that wattstory.com (the “Site”) collects. The following policy describes the collection and usage of data by and through the Site.
In order for you to create an account on WattStory and use our services, we need to collect and process certain types of information. This may include:
Additionally, users who choose to provide WattStory with access to their existing clean energy devices through an Internet connection may provide additional information to WattStory. This may include details about your clean energy system (e.g. solar panels or wind turbines), your monitoring service login information, monitoring service API key, energy meter number, system costs, and related electricity consumption rate.
To modify or delete the personal information you have provided to us, please log in and update your profile. We may retain certain information as required by law or for necessary business purposes.
Certain types of data will not be publicly displayed or revealed to other users:
We do reserve the right to disclose personal information when we believe that doing so is reasonably necessary to comply with the law or law enforcement, to prevent fraud or abuse, or to protect WattStory’s legal rights.
When you create an account, we create a basic profile page for you on WattStory, containing your account name, the date the account was created, and a list of stories and/or clean energy systems you follow or own. Whenever your account name appears on WattStory (for instance, when you post comments, send messages, or support projects), people can click your account name to see your profile. The profile is not searchable on WattStory or via search engines like Google. Here are some of the things that will be publicly viewable on your profile, or elsewhere on WattStory:
Please note that each system page and story lists the community of users who are following it. If you do not want others to see your name associated with a system or story, choose an account name that is not identifiable.
We do not give your personal information to any third-party services, except when it is necessary to work with a WattStory service provider or vendor and we have received your consent (for example, if a user asks us to put them in touch with a clean energy technology installer or developer). When we share data with third-party services that support our delivery of WattStory Services, we require that they protect your personal information to the same standards we do.
The Site will use the personal information you provide to:
WattStory takes securing your data and preserving your privacy very seriously. We never post anything to your Facebook, Twitter, or other third-party accounts without your permission. WattStory users never receive access to connected clean energy system identifiers or any information that could be used to access connected systems without the consent of the owners. We do not and will not sell your data.
We want to communicate with you only if you want to hear from us. We try to keep emails to a minimum and give you the ability to opt out of any marketing communications we send. We will send you email relating to verifications of certain Site activities (for example, requesting to be put in touch with an installer in your area, or a confirmation of Site registration). You will also receive certain marketing email communications, in accordance with your preferences, and from which you may opt out at any time. We may send you service-related announcements on the rare occasions when it is necessary to do so.
WattStory takes reasonable technical and organizational measures to guard against unauthorized or unlawful processing of the information collected and against accidental loss or destruction of, or damage to, your personal data. While no system is completely secure, we believe the measures implemented by our site reduce the likelihood of security problems to a level appropriate to the type of data involved.
In addition, we recommend that you do your part in protecting yourself from unauthorized access to your account by ensuring no one else uses your computer when you are logged in, by logging off from the site when it is not in use and by keeping your password confidential.
